How to organize a garage
A usable garage comes down to three moves: get rid of what you don't need, assign zones, and store vertically. Here's the process that works.
Declutter first
Pull everything out, sort into keep/donate/toss, and be honest. The cheapest storage is owning less.
Assign zones
Group by activity — tools, sports, seasonal, lawn — and give each a home. Zones keep the garage organized long after the first cleanup.
Store vertically
Use walls and the ceiling before the floor. Overhead racks take bulky bins; walls hold daily tools; the floor stays clear.

- Start by decluttering everything out of the space, then assign zones by activity before buying any storage. Buying first usually leads to the wrong products.
